On my time at DIVE Magazine I was privileged to lay out the work of some amazing photographers. I loved the challenge or telling a story while showcasing these amazing pictures to their full advantage. There were also the less glorious pieces- kit reviews and skills sections and I gathered a lot of experience in doing repro on dive kit as well as underwater images.
Wood Review was a quarterly publication run as a small family business. The main challenge for this magazine was image repro as the images were often provided by the tradesmen who had written the articles and they were not often trained photographers. In my time at DIVE magazine my time was spent dealing with the challenges of dealing with blue but here at Wood Review, the challenge was yellow.
Annual reports and large format documents such as EOIs can be the bane of some people's existence but I actually rather enjoy them. I get great satisfaction in pulling together a large document and making sense out of the chaos. I love putting together lots of information and finding a way to make it attractive and digestible to people.
I believe the key to a painless annual report is a well laid out plan- both for content and landmarks for proofing and approvals. Organisation and a methodical approach makes large format documents as painless a process as possible for all concerned!
At Inland Rail I created images for social media including infographics and illustration as well as images for the website.
In my time at RSL I created images for the website. I also created graphics for the videos as well as art directing photo shoots when required. I built emails using HTML, contributed to an email redesign and new template creation as well as creating images for the emails.
My work at RSL Art Union covered a massive range of collateral. most of which were mail packs that included envelopes, brochures, stationary and upsell flyers.
A new property is drawn every 5-6 weeks so the challenge was to create a set of collateral that hung together as a set but was visually distinctive from the games on either side.
I found that having a strong set of photographs for each game was a great foundation to enable this. Good pictures will, I firmly believe, do most of the selling for you.
I am particularly proud of my contributions to house styling and colour schemes which also helped produce a stronger product. One notable success was a canal-front home where I requested a change in colour scheme and also decided to do a dusk shoot of the property. This changed a formerly monotone home into a grand and luxurious property.
This was the reminder brochure designed as part of the collateral for the 2016 Golden Treasure, the largest game of the year for RSL QLD.
During my time at RSL I also proposed a new format for the reminder brochure which had equal, if not better conversion to the original format but cost less than half the price to print.
Endeavour Foundation often hosts a range of events to act as fundraisers. The Roaring Twenties Gala had an art deco theme which was carried across an invitation, menu and table topper.

Wedding and birthday invitations and associated materials are some of my most favourite jobs. I love helping people create something beautiful for an occasion that means so much to them and it’s great to have an excuse to make something pretty.
I have designed several wedding invitations for friends but the most complex was a travel themed set. Myles & Carly had friends and family traveling from all over the globe so wanted to produce an information booklet which we laid out in the form of a passport. The invite was a boarding pass and the program of events a postcard. The tables were named after cities they had traveled to and names cards were small paper planes.
What I was most proud of with this project was that I found many ways to help them save on budget while still producing a pretty fancy product. I designed a stamp for them which was used with either gold or navy ink, we had assembled the passports, rounded the corners with a die cutter and hand-perforated the boarding pass invites. The postcard/program of events was on the back of a map of the venue which was hand-drawn.
The result was a super special day which my friends loved every moment of and I loved that I was able to help contribute to this.
I have helped create a wide range of signage from billboards to pull-up banners to simple interior signage. There's something so glorious about large scale work, no matter how simple it is. I love being able to go, "That thing that's 6m long? I made that!"
I'm aware that each type of signage has different factors to take in to account for success- location, material, audience, flow of traffic and more.
Brochures can vary greatly in size and purpose. I have provided some examples from my work at Inland Rail and Endeavour Foundation.
Most of the factsheets produced for Inland Rail were set to a tight template to ensure that different sheets sat together strongly as a set. Other ad-hock items allowed for more freedom with design.
Factsheets and flyers are usually simple documents with considerations like folding and how people will be viewing information being the main concerns.
I have also produced a range of material such as business cards, stickers, and magnets.
“A pattern of joy” is an Etsy store which I have recently opened and is still in the start-up stages. This is an outlet for the art-focused work I produce. On this page I have a sample of the material available on my store, feel free to click through to Etsy to explore further or make any purchases on there.

Baking is a favourite hobby of mine. I bake for friends, I bake for charities (I have helped to organise many morning tea fundraisers such as RSPCA Cupcake Day), I bake to cheer people up, I stress bake to take my mind of things and cheer myself up. As a former boss of mine said, the only downside is that when I came in with baking, she didn't know what it meant. Was I happy? Was I stressed? In the end it doesn't matter because I love feeding people. :-)
Since living in Japan for 10 months at the age of 5, origami has always been an interest of mine. In 2017 I started an initiative at RSL called Origami Lunchtimes where I would spend 30 mins once a week teaching various origami projects to whoever was interested. Attendance would vary from 1 to 7 people but not matter how many people attended, it was always rewarding to see the joy of people's faces when they finally made something. And it was a great excuse for me to force myself to learn new origami!
